Your skin might be easily irritated by environmental factors like the sun, wind, or temperature changes, or it could be aggravated by certain topical products and ingredients like fragrance. When skin gets triggered, you may experience a range of concerns, including dryness and irritation.

If you think you have sensitive skin, our experts recommend consulting a dermatologist first before using anything on your skin. Generally, avoid known irritants and use skincare and makeup that is safe for sensitive skin. It’s also a good idea to avoid excessive cleansing or exfoliating, which can zap skin’s moisture and leave it vulnerable to potential irritants. Use tepid water when you cleanse, since hot water can exacerbate dryness. Sun exposure can sometimes trigger sensitive skin, so stay out of the sun if possible and wear UV protection when you’re outside.
