Welcome to The Power Issue!  This is The Wink’s first ever special issue, which I’ve had the pleasure to contribute as a guest editor. This fall, Clinique launched an amazing campaign: Difference Maker. It sends the message to women that everyone has the power to make a positive difference in the world. When Clinique asked me to be their Difference Maker, it was as if the stars were aligned. Although acting is my passion, I believe that my life’s purpose is to help free people of the invisible shackles that make them think “I can’t”. Everyone has the power to make a difference. I know.

I grew up in an inner-city neighborhood in Chicago where the lack of quality education programs lead to children getting stuck living in the same conditions their entire lives. But my parents (they are my difference makers!) raised me to believe that I have the power to break that cycle. For me, education broke barriers. I overcame the odds to pursue my dream of becoming an artist—and now I want to inspire others to make their own dreams come true.

So, read on and remember that any difference you make matters. Whether it’s in your personal life, at your job or in your community, one small change can have a big impact. Even if it’s a simple swipe of red lipstick to reveal a more confident smile. And, if you need some inspiration along the way, try repeating the mantra I live by: “Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will.”
